An excellent opportunity has come up for a Physics / Maths tutor to join the Study Group team at the University of Strathclyde International Study Centre. The ideal candidate should be an energetic, committed, and passionate tutor, with exceptional communication skills and a true passion for providing transformational learning experiences. You will be responsible for teaching Physics and Maths modules to students on university preparation programmes including undergraduate Foundation and Pre-Master's.
You will work with colleagues across the Centre and on occasion across the Network to ensure the effective delivery of teaching programmes in line with our teaching, learning and assessment strategy and aims for an outstanding student experience.
Responsibilities include contributing directly to student support and to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices across the Centre, as well as a commitment to CPD and keeping up-to-date with VLE technology.

ABOUT THE ROLE
- Contribute to the design, delivery and development of modules offered by International Study Centre at the University of Strathclyde.
- Deliver face-to-face teaching of classes including lectures, tutorials and labs with a normal teaching load of 5-10 hours per week
- Write and prepare module examinations, marking rubrics and other forms of formative and summative assessment.
- Mark students’ formative and summative assessment submissions and provide timely feedback to students on their performance, including during one-to-one tutorials/ LCs and through regular student reports (usually RPAGs).
- Writing additional reports for sponsored students if and when required.
- Develop and update course material for modules and teaching sessions.
- Develop and maintain module VLE pages
- Work with the Centre’s administration team in the delivery of induction, orientation and registration programmes.
- Notify and liaise with colleagues, where necessary, to ensure all students receive appropriate on-going welfare and progression support.
- Track students’ academic journey and identify and implement appropriate intervention strategies to support on-going learning.
- Act as a Personal Tutor/ Learning Development tutor/ Skills for Success tutor for one or more groups of students if required.
- Take part in bi-termly learning conversations with students offering progression and engagement guidance and support.
- Follow centre protocol and liaise with colleagues and line manager according to procedure in particular regarding compliance processes such as class timetabling, attendance and engagement monitoring.
- Implement quality assurance procedures at module and teaching session level and contribute to the annual monitoring and review of courses.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students’ attendance and performance.
- Take up opportunities to become (for example) a Champion in eLearning; VLE development; Peer Observation activities.
- Attend and contribute to standardisation, moderation and other quality assurance meetings.
- Participate in regular meetings with teaching and support staff contributing to the effective overall management of the programme and student life cycle.
- Participate in the Centre and University governance structure, including attending all compulsory meetings.
- Liaise with the Head of STEM to aid in the preparation of module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, marking, moderating and providing feedback to students, including re-sit examinations.
- Maintain and submit accurate and timely records of teaching and other activities.
- Participate in regular training and development activities and maintain a log of these activities.
- Carry out any other duty as required from time to time by the Academic Management team and/or Head of Curriculum and Progression.
- A Master’s degree in Mathematics or Physics and/or related subject area. (Essential)
- Relevant Teaching Qualification (or be in the process of achieving this) (preferred but not essential).
- Fluent spoken and written English.
- Experience of teaching in UK higher or further education and preferably a teaching qualification and experience of working with international students at UG level with some PG.
- Candidates with further qualifications in the subject area will be welcome and a Master’s qualification is essential for teaching on any of the Pre-Master's programmes.
